Cabin Management Solutions: Onyx FR Cabin Manager Unit Cover

Cabin Management Solutions (CMS), based in Texas, designs and manufactures cabin management systems for jet aircrafts. CMS is often called upon to replace aging systems because the OEM legacy vendor is no longer in business, rendering the system unrepairable. The systems CMS has designed are made up of many nylon components which, if made by conventional means, would make the system parts extremely expensive as well as time consuming. This is when CMS turned to Markforged to solve their dilemma.

Instead of using traditional manufacturing solutions, the Cabin Management Solutions team utilized its Markforged 3D printers to replace low volume high value parts for aircrafts at lower costs and accelerated lead times. They have printed everything from housings to brackets, using Markforged Onyx FR material, and have even gone as far as to plate anything that requires a decorative bezel. Onyx FR is certified UL 94 V-0 rated flame-retardant nylon filled with chopped carbon fiber. It’s mainly used to print parts that need high-strength, low-weight, and flame-retardant properties, making it the perfect material for the aerospace industry.
