In 2023, the company significantly advanced its capabilities by integrating a Markforged X7™ industrial 3D printer into their operations, transitioning from initial explorations with hobbyist printers.

With the X7™, MHM has started producing components in-house, which traditionally were outsourced or fabricated internally. This shift has led to consistent cost savings of around 75% and improved efficiency and control over production timelines.

  • Cost and Time Efficiency: Producing parts in-house reduces dependence on external suppliers, cutting costs and production time significantly. A de-boxer vacuum manifold, for example, is now printed as a single unit with a 93% cost saving and a 32-day reduction in production time compared to outsourcing.
  • Accelerated R&D: The X7™ has become a critical tool in MHM’s R&D efforts, allowing for rapid prototyping and testing, thus reducing development times and enabling more extensive research opportunities.
  • Increased Payload Capacity: Utilizing Markforged’s Onyx material, MHM achieves a lightweight advantage over aluminum without losing strength, thereby enhancing the payload capacity of robotic equipment.
