Dana Incorporated: CMM Fixtures

Dana Incorporated is a Fortune-500 company with a rich 115-year history as a supplier of drivetrain and e-Propulsion systems for the automotive industry. With 36,000 employees in 33 countries and manufacturing facilities all around the world, Dana has deployed numerous Markforged metal and carbon fiber 3D printers across their facilities. The Power Technologies business is responsible for producing automotive heat exchanges and sealing products, with a big emphasis on electrification.

Since purchasing their Markforged X7 3D printer, Dana’s Power Technologies business has found plenty of ways to utilize the machine for internal tools and fixtures. One such example is cooler workholding fixtures made with the team’s Markforged X7 3D printer. These fixtures are used in-house and are designed to make quality testing more accurate and repeatable. Previously, the team would use gauge blocks to create these parts and would otherwise use subtractive manufacturing with an aluminum block if repeatability was important. The Markforged platform was perfect for this application, as the CMM fixtures needed to be conformal, non-marring, and exact in size.
